So we had some tornadoes yesterday in the evening which made running less desirable. Today I just went out for a 13 minute run with B (probably a little less than 2 miles) and we walked back.
B is trying to run with her VFFs as well, but had a bit of a bad start today that was a little ominous … after the first few steps, she had some arch pain. She’s never had plantar fasciitis before, but arch pain is rarely anything else. She went back inside and put on her regular running shoes and was able to do the short run with the extra arch support. We’ll see if this continues to be a problem. Hopefully we didn’t overdue it too soon.
When I first started running in VFFs, I had to start with less than 5 minutes. I have had PF before (six years’ worth before I switched to VFFs). I found that the arch pain I experienced when first starting out in VFFs was not the same pain as PF. It was intense but it was just my arches getting tired so quickly with the unaccustomed use. I was slowly able to increase my time running in them by increments of 2.5 to 5 minutes until I could run over 30 minutes in them.
Hopefully it’s the same with B. Good luck with it, the benefits are definitely worth the slow transition.
